The book undertakes a critical re-definition of minimal architecture with a particular emphasis on its relationship to Minimal Art. While on a formal level Minimal Architecture was clearly indebted to its artistic antecedent, it mostly turned its back on the conceptual ambitions of Minimal Art.

To show this disparity the book speculates about the possibility of a Minimal Architecture inspired not by the forms but by the concepts of Minimal Art. Describing this transgression of Minimalism as a “Trans-Minimalism”, the authors exemplify their argument by discussing a number of architects hitherto unsuspected of any minimal convulsions, such as: Shigeru Ban, Lacaton & Vassal, Diller & Scofidio, OMA, R&Sie... and others.
